Extensions and Coolite

Is there / will there be a semi-easy way to add an extension to Coolite objects? I'm thinking specifically the portal extension seen in the demos: http://extjs.com/deploy/dev/examples/portal/portal.html

Still trying to get my head wrapped around the coolite code, and haven't messed with extJS extensions much yet. But I know that I would likely want to implement my own eventually.

Why is TextField's clientID is not the same as the actual input id

I added a TextField (txtName) to my page and want to access the input on the clientside or assign an Ajax Toolkit Extender to it. When I view the html of the page, the input id is actually txtName_Input. I think that's very confusing to .NET developers who are used to a control's clientid being the control's html id, especially since there's no method/property on TextField to get the input's clientID. Right now, I have to just hardcode txtName.ClientID & "_Input".

Edit: oops, excuse the grammatically incorrect title.

Extending Ext Components and Coolite

I am a noob when it comes to ExtJS, but from most of the tutorials and examples, it seems like extending existing components is the way to go when building 'big' application. For example, the FeedViewer example extend the TreePanel, GridPanel, and TabPanel for better code maintainability and reusability. How can I reproduce FeedViewer example using Coolite (assuming Coolite has all the necessary components finished)? What about using the ManagedIFrame user extension?

ASP.NET Server controls

Just thought I'd throw this out there for thought...

Have you considered basing the ItemsCollection off of System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebControl?

I was just thinking that it'd be nice to be able to insert a control that isn't based off Ext into the mix. This would broaden the value of Coolite in my opinion.

For example...let's say I'd like to use WebGuage from Infragistic's NetAdvantage product in my application.

GridPanel extensibility

I'm wondering if the new gridPanel control will let us add additional usability using JavaScript directly.
I need to make a grid with, lets say, a classic toolbar and a second toolbar that will contain filter options, etc, and also a footer with totals and additional information.
If these toolbar need a Ext Menu, or Ext Select, or whatever that will require a direct javascript implementation, can I use the grid control as a usual .net control and still make those additional stuff with javascript?

I would like to officially welcome Vladimir to the Coolite Core Developer Team. Welcome!!

Vladimir ("vladsch" in the forums) has been working on the Toolkit since early 2008, although only recently were we able to finally pry him away from prior commitments to now join Coolite as a full-time Core Developer.

Vladimir has been the brains behind much of the design-time experience for the Layout controls, including the ViewPort, BorderLayout and TabPanel controls (v0.5). Currently Vladimir is working exclusively on the GridPanel (v0.6)... and in our opinion, doing a fabulous job. :)

We're super excited to be working with Vladimir and everyone will benefit from his years of web control and .NET development experience.

Vladimir currently resides in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Partial Postbacks in a Viewport

I have been using Ext JS quite a bit, and now am looking at Coolite, and am very impressed with the ease of use.

However I am battling with partial postbacks within each port.

I am using a master page that has my Ext ViewPort and <asp:scriptmanager> on it, and on the actual page, within each <asp:Content> contained within each port I am trying to place the <asp:UpdatePanel> to get partial postbacks.

However everytime I run it, it posts back the whole page on a click.

Has anyone had similiar problems or am I missing something?

Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How to send parameters from ExtJS to JSON ASP.NET webservice?

I have seen the example of the Coolite grid connecting to a webservice returning XML data. Do you have an example of it working with a webservice that returns data in JSON format? Since version 0.6 is not available, I am going to try and create a working grid example using pure ExtJS and ASP.NET webservice. I am sure this is something you guys have to implement for Coolite. I would appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction. I already got the example working if the webservice doesn't have parameters. But it seems that if the webservice contains parameters, Ext.data.HttpProxy is sending the parameters in the wrong format. It is sending 'param1=param1value' instead of 'param1:param1value'.

Coolite Toolkit Problem

Dear all,
Thank you for such a wonderful suite that make our lives as developers much easier.

i have downloaded and installed the community version, i created new ASP.Net website, then added ScriptManager Control to allow the use of the Coolite Controls. Then i added a ViewPort Control, and when i run the website, a popup message comes saying:

WebDev.WebServer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Then i added few Html Image Controls in Panel of the North Pane, run the application and it works!! after that i removed the Html Images and added a second panel to the North Pane and its not working also, the same error..

Also i added a new Panel and buttons for that panel but none of these appeared. is it a limitation by the community Version licence?

i dont know if im doing something wrong but i havent changed any of the ViewPort properties.

Please let me know if any updates come to surface. Thanks for your attention

Ext.Template support and AdditionalConfig property usage

Hi there,

Just wondering when/if support for the Ext.Template object is planned into the development? At the moment I need to change the presentation of a Ext.Button control (which cannot be implemented through straight CSS).. Am playing around with the RenderBeginTag, Render, methods etc without much luck. Maybe there is another way??

I thought I may be able to achieve the same result by adding the Javascript before the script is rendered. Either through additional config options manipulation before script rendering or totally overwrite what is rendered (then why use the control). I played with the AdditionalConfig property of the Coolite.Ext.Web.Component but either it never compiled due to my errors or, if it did, nothing was rendered. What does this property do and how do I utlise it?

Anyhow, loving the objects but finding a few issues in extending them for customised purposes - more than likely because I am new to the toolkit.

Hey guys

Just want to say I am very impressed with what I have seen so far of coolite.

I was just recently digging into ASP MVC, and currently the big deal breaker is that for rich controls, you basically have to write the javascript yourself, or learn a js ui library like Ext. The various big vendors have either said no, or that they just don't know when it comes to MVC support.

Even though you aren't fully off the ground yet, IMO you have the closest thing to controls that would be usable on the MVC framework. I know it would take work, but it might be worth looking into.

Panel.Tools property

Tab and Issues

Hi all,
I was trying to do something and it did not quite work out.
I have an accordion control to my right with some link buttons on it and at the center of the page I have a tab panel. When you click on the link button I want a tab page to be added to the tab panel, this works correctly but it does not autoload the page I specified in the autoload propety of the tab page does not seem to work. But finally when it loaded all the coolite control refused to show. How do I tackle this ?

Hello!

I'm a new user and I just wanted to drop a line and say "thank you" for making such an amazing product. I'm about to embark on a great project and will definately be using Coolite to speed things up! Once everything lines up on this project I will be purchasing a license (hopefully subscription). I couldn't believe how well this thing was working with Visual Web Developer 2008. A dream come true...

Anyhow, my question is about the grid (which I see is of great interest to a lot of folks here). Will it support data from a SQL Data Source? Will I have to convert the data to XML first? Will it support updating the data like the .NET datagrid currently does?

With this tool, combined with VWD 2008 and ExtJS, I will finally be putting Dreamweaver to rest. I'll miss that design tool but the support for ASP and ASP.NET is almost completely gone.

Personally, I hope you guys get rich, and this project continues forward for a long time.

Petition to bump up priority for FormPanel

First, kudos for making Ext JS available for the ASP.NET folks. I would like to petition bumping up the release date for the FormPanel. I was actually a little surprised that FormPanel is scheduled last when most of the form controls are done along with the layout controls. I would think creating a form would be on the top of the list when making a webpage. Is there a reason for pushing this one control back? Is it possible to recreate some of the Forms example from ExtJS with what's currently available from coolite?

First of all really thanx for having port ExtJs library to the .NET world!

If possible, I wish to know when (more or less) will be the 05 release availble.

Then, I would suggest to render more clear if Coolite is compatible with ASP.NET AJAX technology, I mean UpdatePanles, Triggers etc. Of course, this wolud be a great thing for a .NET developer!

How far off is GridPanel really?

Hi there,

I know this is a "how long is a piece of string" question btw some may say "twice as long from start to middle point" but in terms of the gridview panel how far away do you anticipate? 1 week? 1 month? 3 months? 6 months? 1 year?

I ask because I have a project where I would like to use these controls and it would be nice to know so the project could be planned better. In terms of licensing when can you actually purchase?

One other thing to mention is maybe in the examples you could include the viewport etc in case people who visit the examples page don't know it's included now?

Hello everyone, i'm already working with the 0.4.1 release in a project. Some parts of the system are being changed to use coolite controls but some others are not there yet. When integrating we realized that some errors appeared because we have references to Newtonsof.Json and Newtonsoft.Json.Converter ourselves in order to perform some other tasks.

I'm wondering if it could be possible to distribute Json separately from Coolite assembly so user can actually decide what version to use and probably avoid overlapping. What do you guys think?

I've only recently discovered Coolite, so please bear with me.

First off I'd like to say it looks really cool. Great work.

Couple of things I'm puzzled about though.

1. In the tab panel, how come the contents of a tab can't be between the tab tags? Using an html attibute seems a bit odd.

2. Why are all the Ext resources bundled into the dll? Wouldn't it be better if they existed as discrete files in the project - that way you could easily edit/swap out images and styles. This is particularly a problem given that you don't currently provide the source code (isn't that breaking the terms of the GPL btw?)

Hi Geoffrey,

The switch of license by EXT JS Corp for 2.1 Ext JS has caused a massive amount of shock and confusion on their fourm (I'm sure you've been following).

I've been close to buying a developer license from them for ages, but wasn't in the position (commercially) to do so. Having now got close to doing so, I was slightly disappointed to see the licensing switch. It appears to place restrictions on freelance developers working for other companies. For example, if I write a website for another company, I will need a developer license (as I'm conveying the work to them), and the company will need a license to have anyone else develop the website in the future.

Do you know yet what the impact to Coolite will be? I realise you'll probably come under the OEM/Reseller license, but I wondering if you had had discussions with Ext JS with regards to your licensing (and sub-licensing) situation.

Save and restore between layouts

2 Autoload websites?

Hello,

I am wondering if its possible to have a 2nd autoload website window available in addition to the 1 that loads. My idea was to have the main window load the current website, and the 2nd window to have a live chat pop up as well. Then a user would be able to chat with a person concerning any issues that they are having as well as be able to click through on the website.

This would eliminate the usability issue of a completely seperate window.
